When you receive your artwork, care must be taken to avoid touching the pastel surface as this can damage the picture by leaving imprints or rub marks.
Pastels should be protected from the elements by framing behind glass to protect from dust and damage.
I highly recommend that you use a professional framer as they have the skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure the picture is well protected and enhanced.
My use of professional grade archival paper provides an excellent surface to grab onto the pastels and minimise dust shedding.
Picture mats, or mounts, should be raised to catch any dust that does fall and protect the mat and the glass. If you use a professional framer they should be familiar with this requirement.
I prefer not to use fixatives on my work as it can affect the brightness of the colours. Fixatives may also cause colours to run into each other.
You should notify your framer that the work is unfixed and ask them to use a gutter mount.
